Gutturnio

Gutturnio

The roots of the present lie in the past and those with a long history behind them know they can look to the future with confidence and optimism .

A red with a strong, smooth and elegant character, Gutturnio is produced from the combination of two different grape varieties - Barbera and Croatina - and it sums up the principal features of both.

With its long tradition, Gutturnio is considered the symbol of Piacenza's wines. It  was one of the first ten Italian wines to receive the designation of origin (DOC) mark.

Its name derives from that of the silver cups used by the ancient Romans, by whom it was much appreciated.

The territory

The history of viticulture in the province of Piacenza goes back to a very distant past. The Piacenza hills offer calm and relaxing views: woods and vineyards alternate as far as the eye can see, dotted with castles housing precious art treasures, and  with small medieval hamlets of great historical interest, many of which are listed among the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Thanks to its great versatility and many varieties, it can be drunk throughout the  meal, going perfectly with the typical Piacenza salami, known all over the world for its quality, with first courses, as with meat and the most sophisticated and innovative dishes.
